The Craft

Built at the Bench

The trick to an elegant pipe is well-balanced proportions — something that takes years of work to develop. Nate honed his skills through practice and briar, accelerated by collaborating with makers like Les Wood and Michael Parks.

Every Rose Pipe is handmade with obsessive attention to detail, from the engineering of the draft hole to the final hand-rubbed carnauba wax finish. With Scottish and Mohawk roots, that stubborn respect for craft runs deep.

What Collectors Are Saying

I'm fortunate enough to call Nate a friend and I own several of Nate's pieces. I have a tough time telling you which one of them is my favorite. They smoke incredibly well and look fantastic to boot. True workhorse pipes that can take anything you throw at them all while having the precision and comfort that I've come to respect true artisans for being able to craft. I can't recommend him enough for your pipe collecting needs.

It is hard for me to believe that I have known Nate and Rose Pipes for five years now. I was first attracted by his grasp of the classics and his passion for building upon that foundation in spite of already having a decade of experience. That first commission I yielded to his discretion. He chose a shape of which I have never really been all that fond—the Lovat. The amazing blast, beautifully crafted stem and excellent smokeability of that Lovat inspired me to request six additional classic shapes in order to create a 7-day set which I loved. Of course, that lead to more commissions and collaborations. Now, Nate's pipes occupy a rack of their own and number at “15”. I'm quite certain we are not yet done. Rose pipes look beautiful, feel great and smoke amazingly well. Bonus: He is a good man and a friend.

Nate Rose is an exceptional artisan and true master of his craft. His pipes are beautifully designed, expertly finished, and made from outstanding materials—but what truly sets them apart is how they smoke. Every pipe delivers an unforgettable experience you'll never regret.

At this point, I own quite a few of Nate's pipes, which in and of itself hopefully tells you what you need to know. They all have several things in common: they are aesthetically beautiful, they are technically perfect, smoking wonderfully for it, and they all represent Nate as an artisan and a person. I don't have anything against factory pipes, or people collecting them; I used to myself. What has drawn me to artisan pipes over the years is the connection they represent to a person, with each being a unique expression of that individual. It is clear that Nate puts his heart and soul into his work. I am happy and proud to own the pipes I do from Nate, and I have no doubt I will continue to add more in the years to come.

Collaboration

The Commonweal Collection

Named for the British Commonwealth, the Commonweal pipes were a collaboration between Les Wood of Ferndown, Michael Parks, and Nate Rose — who Parks personally selected for the project. Stummels turned by Wood, finished by Parks, stems handcut by Rose. Each pipe completely handmade by three makers at the top of their craft.
